The collection centers on Mary Eliza (Bernard) Guest of Caroline County, Va., and Baltimore, Md., and her husband, George Guest, a real estate and commission agent in Baltimore. Mary's papers, 1856-1874, include correspondence with her mother and sisters and her marriage contract, 1861. George's papers, 1856-1879, consist primarily of business correspondence. There are several legal papers pertaining to the estate of Mary's father, John Hipkins Bernard, and concerning land in Caroline County, Va., and Greene County, Ala., as well as a few other Bernard family papers.
